Budget Restomod Mustang

My TOY!

This is my '66 mustang.  I bought it in 2004 and have been working on it since.  My goal with this car is to build up a fun to drive hot rod that is easy on the budget so the whole family can enjoy it.

Originally it was a 289 2v v8 with a 3 sp transmission and a open rear end.  Now it is powered by a 1995 5.0 from a mustang gt and has a c4 auto.  To stop this old car was a 4 wheel drum set up from the factory.  That had to go and now I have in place a scarebird disc brake set up.  These work very well and the cost to install them was great on the bank account.  This web site will be developed around my car and the projects that it is going through.

I just want to add that I am by no means a pro and am learning along the way.  I have made some mistakes and have had some fun doing it.  My car is a 50 footer right now but I plan to change that.

Hope you enjoy it.
WARNING: I am sharing some of the projects that I have done and have worked for me.  You may not have the same results.  Use your own best judgment.

Summer plans....

It is June now and my plans are about the same as they were before.  Money is tight and the economy sucks.  I want to do my part to help keep the mustang vendors in business but I have to pay the bills.  So I am doing a little at a time with the parts that I already have and if I am lucky enough to put a little cash a side I will buy some odds and ends.  I do not expect to be driving the car at all this summer and probably won't until next year.  We will just have to see.

As for projects, I will get everything installed that I have sitting around.  I won't do the body for some time, so I will worry about the body/paint/and trim then.  For now it is interior and things that I really need to do for safety and to be sure that everything is working the way it should.

Current Events! ~ June 12, 2009

OK.  The car is dusty now.  I have been spending my time with the family doing the important things as well as tending to my summer chores.

The car is now getting some attention.  I just finished installing my 'Budget Insulation & Carpet' project.  I am very happy with how it all turned out.  I also did something cool with my door sills.  It is a 'just for now' sort of thing.  Not sure what is going to happen with my door panels.  I could finish the custom ones or just buy new ones.  My goal now is to get all the parts that I have sitting for the car installed so there is nothing left for me to do but either buy new parts or save money for wheels and tires.

Speaking of wheels and tires, the alignment sucks.  I messed with it for about 6 hours and I really didn't get it any closer than where it is now.  I did manage to drive the car around the block a few times.  After sweating all day long I have decided to see if I can find a shop that is up to the task.  I might as well do rims and tires while I am at it.

I have some pages to complete now so be sure to check them out.  My future projects list has been updated as well.
